
Competitive fishing has been part of social activity at Broady Flow Control Limited since 1959! Established by Pete Norfolk, a fitter in the Reducing Valve Department the club proved so popular that the then owner of Broady agreed to rent a lake in Hedon, Sam Allon’s Pond. For many years the club prospered with working parties repairing and replacing the fishing stands and stocking the lake with thousands of fish. Sadly, after eleven years, the owner decided to fill in the pond and sold off the land for housing. Although this was a massive blow to the club it did survive, largely due to coach trips arranged to fish the River Trent fuelled by crates of good strong ale!!
Twelve years ago the club formally regrouped with a league comprising six matches a year. Highly competitive and great fun the winner of each match loudly enjoys the bragging rights, at least until the next match!

The award for the Most Improved Angler went to Alex Brown, Russ’ son and the biggest fish of the series was an 11lb Mirror Carp caught by Tony Derrick at Messingham Sands.
Covert training is well under way for next season and we look forward to enjoying many tales of the one that got away!
